I am exploring the different relationships between humans and climate change, as well as the impact of human pollution on the environment. To highlight these different relationships, human figures are interjected into dystopian settings that exist in the real world due to human overindulgence. These works are concerned with themes of ignorance, greed and excess, which are all major factors that contribute to the devastation of the environment. Climate change is sequential to the pollution of humans. Forest fires, flooding, smog and drought are all prevalent issues that are essentially caused by the exorbitant amount of carbon being pumped into the environment by humans on a daily basis. Within the time that I started this work, a great area of the Amazon was burned to clear land for animal farming to keep up with human demand, and Venice has completely flooded due to rising sea levels. By juxtaposing an ethereal aesthetic with this dark subject matter I am highlighting human’s tendency to cover up or overlook the horrors of climate change.
